Philip II.
The Mediterranean style villa offers an Ibicenco style design with large terraces
and gardens.
Xarco Tower
Coastal surveillance tower with circular plant and frustoconical base 7 meters in
diameter and
about
12 meters high, raised on a rocky ledge at 31 meters above sea level, built in the
16th century,
under
the reign of Felipe II.
It forms part of a set of towers constructed to prevent the incursions of the
Berber pirates
(Ottoman
corsairs) that until the XVIII century attacked the coasts of the Mediterranean
coast in search of
booties and hostages for whom they demand rescues. Once the enemy was seen,
the signal was
transmitted to the nearby towers and the populations were alerted.
The alarm even reached Alcoy (60 km inland). The signs were made with the light
and the smoke
of
the bonfires. .
At the top you can see one of the four lozenges or windows that served to defend
the tower.
